Community Missions of the Niagara Frontier Inc. are helping those in need by providing different services and organizing various events. To fit into the real world around you, volunteering for your community can act as a great catalyst and be seen as a way to grow entirely as a person. People often say that you are like the people you surround yourself with. In your surroundings you will be with people who are slowly bettering the world and providing for others who don’t have the means to. The satisfaction of when you help someone in need can truly be rewarding.

Community Mission is a non-profit organization with the goal of providing a unique blend of services to address the needs of the Niagara community,” as written on their brochure. Living in brutal weather like this makes it very difficult for people in need to find shelter and food. This organization has been providing temporary shelter for those in need for about 50 years now and the reasons include homelessness, eviction and domestic violence. This is an essential, with the addition of food.

Food is also provided throughout the month to multiple families on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday’s afternoon. “Before the pandemic approximately 140-160 people came monthly but during the height of the pandemic about 650 people were showing up,” says Hoffman. Now they receive about 200-250 people monthly. It is not easy to run an organization like this, however thanks to many local business partners like Tops, Walmart, Wegmans, Sam’s Club, and Niagara University, food is provided for these people. Oftentimes in the dining hall at Niagara University, food is wasted or not used up by the students, however this all doesn’t go to waste.

The organization uses this left-over food to feed and fulfill the needs of families that require them. It is definitely encouraged to donate. If you don’t necessarily need certain valuables that you don’t use, please donate them as they can be a great help to those in need. There are many different types of possible donations, food, personal care items, clothing, baby items, household items, money and the most valuable, your time.

Due to Covid-19, many volunteers were lost as it became a mandate to have the Covid-19 vaccination before being able to volunteer. It is strongly encouraged to join this organization if you are vaccinated as there are many benefits in giving back to the community. Joining this organization will not only prepare you for struggles in the world, it will also teach you many lessons and develop character traits. You will certainly be able to acquire the skill of leadership, by knowing how to manage people and work with them.

Discipline and humbleness are also two great skills that will be acquired in the process of volunteering, as you will have to be able to get up on time, work and be grounded with everyone you meet as you will definitely encounter people with various personalities and backgrounds. Building connections is a critical part of our lives, with this organization you will be able to make new friends, increase your social skills, have a healthy mind, and surprisingly you may even find out what you’re passionate about in your life. The organization has two upcoming events that are great opportunities for people to give back to the community and help those in need.

Giving Tuesday as an event where a hospitality company donates 10% of their sales to the organization for every meal given.
